Surface Area:

550M2

Location:

Hangar Facility

Date:

April 2025

Overview

Northern Star Flooring Ltd was contracted to refurbish a failing hangar floor at the prestigious Cotswold Airport. The 550m² area showed significant signs of deterioration, with various sections breaking away and failing under use. The team was brought in to deliver a long-lasting, safe, and durable flooring solution suitable for an operational hangar environment.

Scope of Work

Upon inspection, several areas of the existing floor were found to be structurally compromised. Northern Star Flooring carried out full mechanical preparation, breaking out the damaged areas and bulking out the subfloor to reinstate structural integrity. Once the surface was prepped and stable, the team applied a high-performance resin system over five days.

System Application

  • Primer: KDR Epoprime DPM was applied to promote adhesion and prepare the surface for the top coats.

  • Top Coat: Two coats of KDR Epo Coat HB were applied to ensure a seamless, durable, and chemical-resistant finish.

  • Anti-Slip Finish: An anti-slip aggregate was incorporated into the system to enhance safety and meet operational requirements.

Challenges

  • Localised areas of structural failure required reactive on-site decision-making and additional substrate repair.

  • The project had to be completed within a strict five-day schedule to minimise operational disruption at the hangar.

Outcome

The project was completed on time and to a high standard, delivering a robust, anti-slip resin floor tailored for heavy-duty hangar use. The new floor not only improved safety and functionality but also significantly enhanced the appearance of the space.
