Project Overview

Northern Star Flooring Ltd. was commissioned to upgrade the flooring at Retford train station in collaboration with Colt Construction and LNER. This project, spanning one month, required our team to work night shifts to minimize disruption to passengers and ensure a smooth installation process.

Challenges

• Working Night Shifts – To accommodate station operations, all work had to be completed outside of peak hours.
• Replacing Terrazzo Tiles – The existing floor was made of terrazzo tiles, which required careful removal before the new surface could be installed.
• Precision and Durability – Given the high foot traffic of a train station, the new flooring solution needed to be both aesthetically appealing, long-lasting, and anti-slip.

Our Solution

Northern Star Flooring provided a durable and modern flooring upgrade, consisting of:

• MMA Sika Pronto Floor: A rapid-curing resin flooring system that ensures a strong, slip-resistant, and wear-resistant surface.
• Yorkstone Installation: A high-quality stone that offers both a traditional yet modern aesthetic, enhancing the station’s overall look and longevity.

Outcome

The new Yorkstone finish has transformed the look of Retford train station, offering a more robust and visually appealing flooring solution compared to the previous terrazzo tiles. This upgrade will ensure a longer lifespan, improved durability, and a fresh, modern feel for passengers using the station.
